COMMENT CARDS WELCOME

It has certainly been an exciting night here in Houston, with some great goals, electrifying atmosphere and the debut of the new Nike gear. (Admit it, the jerseys looked cool on t.v.!)

We delivered loads of content to you tonight that included return of Studio 90, live streaming of the pre-game warmups, and of course the first-ever ESPN360/ussoccer.com post-game show. We'd love to hear what you think, so chime in with your suggestions, comments, glowing praise ... you get the idea. Like McDonalds' says, we do it all for you!

I didn't like the new jersey when I saw them on the online store before tonight's game. However, after I watched the game and saw the jersey on actual players, I think I like them.

Eh, the new shirts were uninspiring. While I understand having new designs to sell shirts, I wish we could come up with some kind of identifying feature and stick with it with minor changes every two years. Like the vertical stripe on the last home shirts. The post game show was great. It was up to the tv broadcast quality standards even if it was online. And all the coverage before the game and in the last few days has been appreciated.

The jerseys got my attention last night. They looked good on the players. Classy.

i was excited for the extra coverage. Then i realized i couldnt get on ussoccer.com all evening. The sight needs to increase it's capacity

Great game, great coverage, but I don't like the new jersey, we were referring to it as "the blouse" last night. It's kind of feminine. Sorry guys!! Thumbs down from the girls in the room.

When will a long sleeve version be available for purchse!

I really liked the studio 90 episode, especially that interview with the jersey hahah.

Ditto what jerraine said - on the field, the jerseys looked good.

Not trying to kiss any posteriors here, but I love the content that the US Soccer web site provides. The pre-game and post-game stuff was good, and I always enjoy the videos that you guys produce. Just keep it coming! I could watch them all day, and frankly, it's possible that my employer thinks that's exactly what I do...

I liked the pre-game streaming video. But, I still think the jerseys look bad. The names on the back do not look good curved over the straight panels of the shirt. Also, it still looks like a rugby shirt and not a USA jersey. We need to start some sort of consistent jersey in order to establish tradition.

the format with studio 90/the pregame coverage was a big problem for me. the flash interface on ussoccer.com was not responding in either firefox or safari, so i was unable to click any of the flash links to check out Studio90 or any of the Game Notes.

It was disappointing!

Clint was robbed!!! What a great goal. Altidore played well.

It's too bad Eddie Lewis was hurt...he could have been a much more fulfilling contributor if he had not been maimed.

I too liked the new jerseys. However, I wish they would make all the jerseys similar so that one day, when someone sees the jersey they know it is US. (For example, when we see the yellows, we know it is Brazil.) Also, we need a nickname! I know you cant just pick one and that they are sort of adopted, but if we were the Screaming Eagles, or something like that, it would be much better than just saying the Mens National Team.

Great game. We continue to own Mexico. Have some great friendlys coming up for us with Poland and Spain!

The jerseys look awful; who are you trying to kid. They look especially horrid the way the player names overlap the little red stripe on the back.

No doubt in my mind we have the worst jerseys in the world and no history associated with our team, all thanks to the need for greed in obtaining Nike money.

I loved all the coverage, I loved all the new nike stuff (especially the jerseys), the only thing I didn't love was the score line.. we should of had 'em!

Honest comments. Central midfield was infuriating me. It was as if neither had never played a competitive game before. I've never seen people so afraid to get involved. The wings played poorly, they kept making bad passes and giving the ball away. Central defense was solid. Gooch, Carlos, and Howard were fantastic. Drew Moore and Corrales should have been subbed at half-time. Benny was impressive when he came in (too bad Derby County can't see his talent), but Freddy again failed to inject himself in the game. Overall a poor performance by the US. We're lucky to come away without a loss. We need creativity out there and we need our boys to grow up and get involved.

Good game...just a few things....CLINT DEMPSEY"S GOAL WASN"T OFFSIDES!!!! Ok now that I got that out of the way. :) You guys played well. A few rookie mistakes. I think Coach Bradley should've of put outsite fullbacks that had experience playing with gooch and carlos. Those 2 set piece goals were rookie mistakes like not staying goalside of the player, thats a should know with a professional player at that level. Everyone else did well some players were out of it for a while. I dont think Michael Bradley and Ricardo Clark Meshed well. Bradley and Edu would of been better. Some other things but overall TEAM USA ALL THE WAY! One last thing, the ref sucked @$$ calling calls that weren't really for being called, but when the Mexican players did something why didn't the whistle blow. I would of been a bit stronger on bautista he's another blanco cry babies who spend more time on the grass then on the feet doing something with the ball. You guys are really improving and I think come world cup 2010 we are in the finals because you guys have all wut it takes to win. Youth, talent, and team work never giving up. Thanks for a great game guys.

i liked the jerseys except that red strike through on the names...on some jerseys it looks uneven like on bocanegra's. they should have removed that part of the red strike at least from the back... but the jerseys still look nice...

Neither Bradley is of National Team
Quality or skill. The player is the weakest link on the team with very bad passing and shoots with a marshmellow foot, surely there are better players on the bench.

Does the coach know the meaning of "defensive formation"?

All of the added coverage and attention was great. Really made me feel not just like a fan, but an active participant. You could feel the emotion and suspense building with all the extra attention from the live pre-game camera and long lead in on ESPN 2 to the post game show. AGAIN, THANK YOU!!! Keep it coming!

Outstanding atmosphere & setup in Reliant last night!

Can you identify the rap song that was played when the US team came out for pre-game warmups?

Post game show was pretty good. Where's Allen Hopkins though?

The jerseys are boring, what do you want a fashion award or something, Lagerfeld?

cb3fan said...

Love the jersey! But where can we get the Red Shirt Dempsey was wearing?

Bone Daddy Sammer said...

The extra coverage was Christmas in February. Sports channels give shamefully little airtime. The blog section is a gold mine of gems and nuggets of inside info. It would be nice to hear from the loyal fans that attend the games. Maybe a stroll through the parking lot before each game.

The new jersey is uninspiring, but if the team keeps winning, I am sure we will all be wearing one. See you in the supporter's section. Go USA!

My favorite thing is the behind the scenes videos, with different angles of the game, and the pregame, halftime and postgame talks. those are great.

We have had better jerseys. The WC 02 jerseys as well as the jerseys that followed with the circled numbers were the best ones ever. The retro idea was fun but its time go back to the present day.

I would appreciate more videos from practice, etc and more interviews. i realize it takes time to produce them, but i would be fine with basically unedited footage. when the players are in camp, i'd like to see at least a video a day. i'd also like to see a short feature titled: "Legend: A Day in the Life of Neil Buethe".

keep up the good work.

ps- where can one purchase the red jersey? everyone loves that jersey yet we only wore it once. disappointing. i'd like to echo the complaints of many a US fan- we have no traditional look with our jerseys. I think the striped look (see the red jersey and most recent US Home whites) is the most appealing to fans.

Gunnerfan19 said...

I thought we looked good. The defense should be better with cherundolo in there instead of the horrendous drew moor. Also we'll be much better off once Beasley comes back.

The new jersey's look alright wouldn't mind if we stuck with the horizontal stripe design to create and identity.

dempsey_skills said...

never again call up moor or corrales. im sorry. corrales just too slow and moor just very bad marking. anyway overall below average performance. Dempsey was robbed and if you ask me. IF it was offsides they should have called it before he scored not after. howard solid as usual. altidore beast. donovan wasnt really involved didnt play that bad though. clark seemed afraid and nervous. feilhaber should have started. gooch and bocanegra solid as well. bradley did okay. adu will prob do better if he starts. jerseys were nice not as nice as the last ones though. ps. what happend to john obrien???

It's too bad Dempsey was called offsides. I've watched it in freeze frame multiple times and IF he's offsides, it's by millimeters...the goal should have counted. Good on ya, Clint (now pull Fulham out of the relegation zone, dammit :)). I rather like the new jerseys. However, unfortunately I fell in love with the previous white ones...I'm sure I'll get used to them, though.

ESPN's coverage was very good, by the way. They only had a few of the "update multi screen" BS and the dropping of Wynalda and O'brian was helpful (although the replacements are not fantastic, either). Picture was fantastic. They did a good job of not trying to replay everything causing us to miss the action (something they've been guilty of in the past). Now, just get rid of that ticker tape!

Jozy was excellent as was Gooch.

I thought the jerseys looked great. Way to step up on class conevrage - this certainly assists in painting soccer in a more serious light. Why hasn't there been more uproar over the goal they stole from Clint???

The regular jerseys are better but i think the new are ok.
awesome game, dempsey got robbed, that goal totally counted! anyway, hope you guys come back to houston! i'll go this time =)

Exciting game. We did not play near our potential. WC 2002 proves that. Although I loved Altidore's presence up top, our defense lacking in the wings. As we have proved in the past we can play with top countries like portugal, italy and brazil. So i am not at all happy with the result. We are superior. Those two goals where mistakes by Moor not marking up tight. Sorry to say it.
But we will better, Adu must become a regular and so must Altidore. Bob Bradley is the best, a true american coach we need no one else to lead our team. Micheal Bradley is solid hardworking midfielder with stamina. Donovan is still the prodigy. I think quarterfinals in the 2010 is a realistic possibility. we have a lot to look forward too.

i think the jerseys were good in the 3-1 win. with an offside stride of a quick restart that cost a goal and a legitimate shot on goal called offside, i think the team did well.
