The News: Michael Bradley scored his fifth goal of the season, but it proved to be only a consolation as Heerenveen went down to Ajax 3-1 in Dutch Cup play.
Of Note: Heerenveen traveled to Amsterdam to face Ajax in a third round cup match, and ultimately couldn’t pull off an upset against the Dutch giants. Down early from a Johnny Heitinga goal, Heerveen fought back, but a Hedwiges Maduro strike put Ajax up 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, it was more of the same frustration for Heerenveen and a Klaas-Jan Huntelaar goal put the result out of reach before Michael Bradley got on the scoresheet in the 71st minute.
Up Next: Heerenveen have no time to hang their heads, as they host league-topping PSV Eindhoven on Saturday. DaMarcus Beasley’s former club is thus far undefeated in the league, and Heerenveen will look for a result to shake up the standings in the Eredivisie.
