Impromptu Interview with Marvell Wynne

Marvell graciously volunteered to answer any question that we asked ... either that, or he was stuck on the training table receiving treatment and couldn't get away. In any case, the random Q&A with Marvell..

us: What is the most fun thing you did in the off season?

Marvell: "I went to SeaWorld with my girlfriend and I got to feed the bat rays. Very cool."

us: What did you consider the biggest success and the biggest disappointment of 2008?

Marvell: "The biggest success was qualifying for the Olympics. Obviously the biggest disappointment was not making it out of the group in Beijing. I thought we played well enough to advance, but of course you have to get the results. The last second goal we gave up to the Netherlands broke my heart."

us: Any current players that you really admire?

Marvell: "Carles Puyol. He's an amazing defender, with great leadership, vision, and endurance."

us: How has living in Canada changed you?

Marvell: "First of all, I have not said 'eh', and I have yet to jump on the hockey bandwagon. I have become a Toronto Raptors fan, though. And I love the city."

us: What impact will D-Ro have on Toronto FC?

Marvell: "Definitely a positive impact. He's going to bring a different dimension to the midfield. I'm very excited to be playing with him."

us: What is the last book you read?

Marvell: "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Great book. I may read it again."

us: Who in the league is faster than you?

Marvell: "I've heard that Ugo Ihemelu is really fast. Johann Smith is very quick, too."

us: Did you have a soccer idol growing up?

Marvell: "Roy Lassiter. I enjoyed watching him play."

us: Ironic that you became a defender ...

Marvell: "I played forward until I was about 15. I was at an ODP state camp, and Kevin Esparza tried me at right back. I still went back and forth between forward and defender, and then when I hit the U-17 level it was all defense. I'm definitely think I'm in the right spot."

us: Which player or coach has taught you the most?

Marvell: "Colin Chesters and Dave Cohen from Surf. They started me on the right path to possibly becoming a professional."

us: Best advice anyone ever gave you?

Marvell: "Whenever I went into any camp, my dad always said: 'you are there for a reason, so just do what you do.'"

us: Who would win in a fight between a caveman and an astronaut?

Marvell: "Caveman. It's basic instincts. They have to fight just to eat. The astronaut is too intelligent and would think too much."
