One of the privileges of traveling with the national team is the opportunity to meet many some of the world's best players, coaches and sometimes even world leaders. But how often do you meet the guy who has a stadium named after him?
Happened today at Hasely Crawford Stadium site of Wednesday's match . Some folks from ESPN were admiring a statue out front, when one commented that it might be Hasely Crawford. "Pretty sure it is," came the cheerful word from the man standing just behind. "I'm Hasely Crawford."
Mr. Crawford holds the distinction of being the first gold medalist in T&T history, winning the 100 meters at the 1976 Olympic Games. He was busy coaching future track athletes when we saw him, and still looking good.
Guess he probably doesn't need a ticket to get in Wednesday.
