Down Day

As we mentioned, the national team gets a day off today and has dispersed to enjoy the afternoon. With Baltimore only 90 minutes away, the Jersey Shore about an hour, and all the sites of one the country's most historic cities, the team gets well-deserved down time before getting back to business tomorrow.

So, if you were in the Philly area and had some time, what would you do?

Baltimore? Really? Who goes sightseeing in Baltimore?

Used to live in Philly. The soccer bar is The Dark Horse at 2nd and Lombard -- you can have a beer there and run into some soccer fans. The Art Museum is fantastic, and the Rocky Statue is there. You could go from the Art Museum for a walk/jog along Kelly Drive, tracing Rocky's footsteps there. The Italian market is fantastic during the day, and Rittenhouse Square is a great place to sit around and people-watch. The best Italian restaurant for your buck in the city (also pretty cheap -- but cash only and BYOB, as many of the Mom and Pop restaurants are) is La Viola at ~16th and Spruce/Pine (they have two restaurants right across the street from each other -- go to the one with the sign and ask them to point out the other one -- it has a little better atmosphere)

besides the standard constitution center/liberty bell, independence mall, and cheesesteak runs, be sure to take a walking audiotour (voice of steve buscemi) of eastern state penitentiary - perfect before or after a jog by boathouse row and up the art museum steps ala rocky. you could also stop by world cafe live (broadcasts from walnut st) and the country's first zoo.

So with all the comings and goings after group play I have no idea what the roster is going to be for this weekend's game and beyond. Can you give us an update on who's taking the place of Cherundolo, Parkhurst, Adu and Feilhaber among others please?

Go to Chink's for a steak, pizza at Tony's and grab a Schmitter at McNally's. Run them all off along Schuylkill Banks/Kelly Drive.

Tonight, watch the All-Star game at the Piazza.

Eat a philly cheese steak and tour the liberty bell. Then go see the new Harry Potter at midnight.
