Italy Beats New Zealand In Final Tuneup

Italy and New Zealand squared off in their final tune-up for the tournament at the Super Stadium in Atteridgeville, about 45 minutes from the U.S. base camp. There were plenty of goals at both ends, with the Kiwis taking the lead three times before finally surrendering 4-3 after Vincenzo Iaquinta scored his second of the night in the 68th minute. Italy kept most of their usual starters on the bench or in street clothes, yet their world-class quality remained evident.

Lineups:

Italy: Marco Amelia, Davide Santon (Gianluca Zambrotta, 66), Alessandro Gamberini, Nicola Legrottaglie, Andrea Dossena, Gennaro Gattuso (Riccardo Montolivo, 60), Angelo Palombo, Simone Pepe (Mauro Camoranesi, 60), Giuseppe Rossi, Fabio Quagliarella (Vincenzo Iaquinta, 60), Alberto Gilardino (Luca Toni, 60).

New Zealand: Glen Moss, Dave Mulligan, Tony Lochhead, Ivan Vicelic, Andy Boyens, Leo Bertos, Simon Elliott, Tim Brown, Jeremy Brocke (Andy Barron, 75), Shane Smeltz, Chris Killen (Chris Wood, 81).
