Italy Releases Squad for Confederations Cup


Italy has winnowed their squad down to 23 players for the Confederations Cup and here's what it looks like:

Goalkeepers (3): Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Marco Amelia (Palermo), Morgan De Sanctis (Galatasaray);
Defenders (8): Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Gianluca Zambrotta (Milan) Fabio Grosso (Lyon), Davide Santon (Inter), Alessandro Gamberini (Fiorentina), Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus), Andrea Dossena (Liverpool);
Midfielders (6): Mauro Camoranesi (Juventus), Gennaro Gattuso (Milan), Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Andrea Pirlo (Milan);

Forwards (6): Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus), Fabio Quagliarella (Napoli), Luca Toni (Bayern Munich), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal), Pepe (Udinese).

Veteran Gennaro Gattuso comes back into the fold after a making a successful recovery from injury and there's also a place for impressive Inter youngster Davide Santon. Eleven of the players in Marcello Lippi's team did not play in Italy's disappointing Euro 2008. About half of the players will take part in a friendly against Northern Ireland on Saturday before the squad in whole travels to Johannesburg on Sunday.

I hope Rossi doesn't play against the US. That would be a difficult situation for me.

I wonder how tight the ref will calls fouls on Rossi liking for bad blood between our guys and the traitor.

Good god, he's not a traitor. He played for Italy's youth teams...ALL OF THEM. If he is a traitor so is Freddy Adu.
